      Enrolment Process (Kindergarten to Year 12)

      An > Application for Enrolment form should be completed and submitted to the School, together with payment of the Application Fee.

      You will be placed on a waiting list for the year of entry you have requested.

      One year prior to entry, you will receive an invitation to attend an interview at the School. If you are proceeding, we will schedule an interview for your son or daughter with the Head of School or the Head of Park Campus, after which a full offer of enrolment may be made by the School. Your acceptance of this offer is confirmed by the payment of the Entry Fee.

      Application Fee

      A non-refundable Application Fee of $250 (incl GST) is to accompany the Application for Enrolment form. Application for Enrolment forms are processed in the order of receipt.

      Entry Fee

      A non-refundable Entry Fee of $2,000 per child is confirmation of acceptance of an enrolment offer. Cancellation of an enrolment by you, after the end of the third term of the year preceding the year of entry, will cause the Entry Fee to be forfeited.

        Interviews for a 2017 Kindergarten place are held with parents, your son or daughter and the Head of Primary. You can arrange an interview time with Mrs Burke.

        • Pre-school

          Thank you for your interest in the Newcastle Grammar School Pre-school for you son or daughter. Located at our Park Campus site, our Pre-school aims to ensure children are engaged in fun, play based learning activities that promote positive interactions and facilitate a smooth transition to school.

          Our Pre-school operates between 8.30am and 3.00pm Monday to Friday and After School Care is available until 5.30pm.

          Our cut off birthday date for entry is 4 years of age on 31 March. Please note children who turn 4 after this date may enrol if places are available once they have turned 4.

          Places are allocated on the following basis:
          Five days - Monday to Friday
          Four days - Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday
          Three days - Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday or Wednesday, Thursday & Friday
          Two days - Monday & Tuesday or Thursday & Friday

          Application Fee

          A non-refundable Application Fee of $150 (incl GST) and the child's birth certificate must accompany the Pre-school Waiting List Application form. Waiting List Application forms are processed in the order of receipt.

          Entry Fee

          $750 per child for entry.

          If you are considering enrolling your child in Kindergarten at Newcastle Grammar School, please note that the Entry Fee covers part of the Newcastle Grammar School Entry Fee. Applications for Kindergarten are processed in order of receipt so it is recommended that the application be made as soon as possible to ensure a place.

          The Entry Fee will be transferred to form part of the Entry Fee if your child enrols in Kindergarten at Newcastle Grammar School.

          The Entry Fee will be forfeited if:
          - you cancel your child's enrolment after 30 September in the year prior to entry
          - if you cancel your child's enrolment during the year of enrolment

          If your child does not enrol in Kindergarten at Newcastle Grammar School, $500 of the Entry Fee will be refunded on request at the end of the year of enrolment. This request must be in writing and within 3 months of the child leaving the Pre-school.

          Following National Assessment and Rating Process, our Pre-school has been rated as exceeding National Quality Standards. This places us in the top 18% of Early Childhood Services in NSW.

          • Before School, After School and Vacation Care

            Before School Care
            Before School Care is available for Newcastle Grammar School Park Campus students from 7.15am. Parents are required to sign their child into the centre with the member of staff on duty. Children must have had breakfast before coming to Before School Care. There is no cost for this service. This programme is not suitable for Pre-school students.

            After School Care
            The After School Care programme is run by qualified Child Care staff and the students are fully supervised. They take part in a range of activities including games, craft, and cooking. Year 3 and above children have the opportunity to do their homework. After School Care operates at Park Campus Practical Activities Room for Pre-school to Year 8. Afternoon tea is provided. There is an additional charge for this service.

            All bookings can be made through the Office at Park Campus on 4925 2121 for Pre-school to Year 5, or by contacting the Child Care coordinator or staff on 4925 3755 after 2.30pm. All students attending After School Care are to be formally booked in.

            Vacation Care
            A Vacation Care programme is run each School holiday between the hours of 8.15am and 6.00pm. Students from Pre-school to Year 6 are involved in a range of activities including outings, sport, craft, art, cooking, play, etc. Vacation Care operates in the Practical Activities Room at Park Campus.

            Permanent bookings are on a daily/weekly basis and can be made prior to the holiday break. Casual bookings will only be accepted on the day if there are any vacancies. Bookings are made through Park Campus reception during School term only or by contacting the Child Care coordinator and staff on 4925 3755.

            ASC is $23.50/day
            Vacation Care is  $57.00/full day & $33.00/half day

              • Scholarships - Assisted Places Program

                Every year Newcastle Grammar School offers a number of scholarships to promising students for entry into the School in the following year. 

                The majority of these scholarships are for academic merit, however, there are also some scholarships available in the areas of music, visual arts, sport and general excellence / assisted places.

                As part of the Assisted Places Program, the School hopes to be able to offer a student who may not otherwise be able to attend Newcastle Grammar School and the opportunity to be part of our School community.

                Scholarships take the form of part remission of tuition fees and are only available to Australian citizens and permanent residents of Australia.

                Scholarship Disciplines Offered for 2018
                Academic Scholarships are available for students entering Years 7 to 11 in 2018.
                Music Scholarships are available for students entering Years 7 to 11 in 2018.
                Visual Arts Scholarships are available for students entering Year 7 in 2018.
                Sport Scholarships are available for students entering Years 7 to 11 in 2018.
                All Rounder / General Excellence Scholarships are available for students entering Years 9 to 11 in 2018.

                Applications are invited from internal students and students not currently enrolled at Newcastle Grammar School.  Every student regardless of the Scholarship they are applying for must sit the ACER Academic Scholarship Examination.  Students currently on a scholarship at Newcastle Grammar School may not reapply.

                It is a requirement that an Application for Enrolment at Newcastle Grammar School be placed prior to any scholarship offer being offered.  All students for Year 7 entry in 2018 are required to attend the information seminar which will be held on Tuesday, 14 March as part of the Newcastle Grammar School Open Day.

                Application Fee
                An application fee of $300.00 is required to be paid online directly to ACER (Australian Council for Educational Research). https://scholarships.acer.edu.au.  The Scholarship Application Fee cover the required Application for Enrolment at Newcastle Grammar School.  If an Application for Enrolment has already been placed with the School, the $150 Fee will be credited to the applicants School account.

                Application Procedure
                Students who wish to apply for a Scholarship must apply for the ACER examination by the closing date and will sit the Scholarship examination, which will be held at the School on Monday, 3 April 2017 commencing at 9.00am.

                All applications must be received online by ACER by the closing date.  After completing an online application, you will be required to submit directly to the School, an Application for Enrolment at Newcastle Grammar School (attached to the confirmation email from ACER), the last 2 school reports and most recent NAPLAN results.  This additional information and portfolio (if required – see Discipline Specific Additional Application Requirements) must be submitted prior Monday, 3 April 2017 to be considered.  Additional information can be submitted via email attachments to fred.neal@ngs.nsw.edu.au or be addressed to the Communications Manager and marked Private & Confidential.  If this additional information is not submitted, the Application will not be considered.

                All examination results and documentation will be reviewed to produce a list of initial successful applicants.  These applicants and their parents/guardians will be offered an interview with the Deputy Head of School to discuss the student, School and be furnished with a letter of offer for a scholarship.  Once this offer has been accepted, we will be in contact to organise the Entry Interview with the Head of School.

                All Students who are wishing to apply for a Scholarship at Newcastle Grammar School in 2018 will be required to sit for the SST (Years 7 to 11) ACER Examination paper, which will be held at the School on Monday, 3 April 2017 commencing at 9.00am.

                Newcastle Grammar School is currently offering scholarships for 2018 entry.
                Apply for a Level 1 ACER Scholarship Test if your child will enter Year 7 or 8 in 2018.
                Apply for a Level 2 ACER Scholarship Test if your child will enter Year 9 or 10 in 2018.
                Apply for a Level 3 ACER Scholarship Test if your child will enter Year 11 or 12 in 2018.

                Please Note: All students must sit for the examination on the same date at Newcastle Grammar School.  We are unable to accept preferencing for a different date, or sit the Examination at an alternate school campus or alternate time.  Please ensure that you have no conflicting work, sporting or social commitments.

                The Scholarship candidates will be selected based on the assessment of the following criteria where appropriate:

                • Acer Scholarship Application Form
                • ACER Scholarship Examination results
                • Supplementary information / portfolio
                • Additional Examination / Audition (Visual Arts / Music Scholarship)
                • Demonstrate a genuine interest and commitment in chosen field

                Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the School and the School's decision is final.

                Value of Scholarships
                Scholarships come in the form of part remission of tuition fees. The value of each Scholarship may vary. Scholarships may range in value from 25% to 50% of tuition fees. In some instances, Scholarships of lesser value may be offered. For students who apply for a All Rounder / General Excellence, the value of this award is at the discretion of the Head of School and may require a family financial background check for short listed candidates.

                Notification of Offer of Scholarship
                After the Examination, a short list of applicants will be devised in each of the Years and disciplines and these applicants will be invited to the School for an interview with the Deputy Head of School and tour of the facilities.

                Initial short listed applicants should be notified prior to Friday, 9 June 2017.  There may be a requirement for second round offers after this date.  A letter will notify unsuccessful candidates as soon as possible after all offers have been made.
