COVID-19 – LATEST INFORMATION

At Newcastle Grammar School, every face matters. We are closely monitoring the situation with regards to COVID-19, following advice from NSW Health and the Association of Independent Schools in order to provide the highest level of care and support to students, staff and the School community.

While only a small number of COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, the School continues to check with NSW Ministry of Health to monitor international developments.

You may be aware that three Sydney schools have closed. Students and staff who may have been exposed to the virus through close contact are currently self-isolated.

We have taken steps as a precautionary measure to increase school cleaning activities which will focus on high traffic areas.

We request that sensible precautionary measures, including not attending school if you are feeling unwell with fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose or other symptoms of respiratory infection.

At this stage the advice is:

  • NSW Health had advised the risk of contracting the virus is extremely low without close contact.
  • NSW Health is updating its information regularly via website.
  • Any members of the NGS community who are unwell or concerned about their health should contact their GP or a health professional.
  • NSW Health has a free helpline, Health Direct, at 1800 022 222. Registered nurses are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to provide advice when you’re not sure what to do – whether you should see a local GP, manage the condition in isolation, or go to an emergency department.
